Coffee Shop

It was our daily routine, we needed to go to the local coffee shop at court. I was dressed in my normal black jean, dark t-shirt, black boots, and my favorite black leather trench coat. The air was chilly but it didn't bother me but I was not going to let my charge's daughter leave the house with out a coat. After we had everything we needed I escorted Bekah to the coffee shop. Even though we were at court I was always on guard. As we past some Guardians I gave them a nod in respect. We continued on our way to the shop. When we got there I held the door open for Bekah as she walked in. I watched her sit in a booth as I walked over to the counter to order. I placed my order and waited. A few minutes later I paid for my order and walked over to Bekah. I placed the tray down on the table and I took the seat opposite to Bekah, so I was facing the door. So I could keep my eyes on the door. "Here you go." I said placing her stuff in front of her. "Two blueberry glazed doughnuts and an iced mocha coffee." I placed her usual order in front of her. I bit into one of the four chocolate glazed doughnuts and took a sip of my large regular coffee. "So how do you feel about going to St. Vladimir's Academy?" I asked her since her father told her that she was going to a new school, two days ago.

I sat in the booth so my back was to the door, I knew that Nate had a thing for being able to see the main entrance. He was trained to be alert and aware of all the exits. I smiled at the thought of what happened, at a resteraunt he took me to for my birthday last year. Some idiot came in thinking that I would be a brilliant idea to rob the place, since it was a five star resteraunt know to have a lot of high roller patrines on a regular basis. The guy pulled a gun on the woman at the register, Nate new I was petrified and new that I was in danger since the guy was waving the gun at everyone inside. Nate took action when the guy came over to me and started demanding that I give him my jewlery. Nate incompasitated him the moment he went to point the gun at me. The guy was human so he didn't kill him, he just let the cops deal with him.
My thoughts were interrupted when Nate sat down at the table and said "Here you go." I laughed lightly as he said what he got me, while placing it in front of me. "Thank you, one of the days I'm gonna have to change my order on you." I said jokingly to him. I picked off pieces off one of my doughnuts and popped them into my mouth. My thoughts wondered back to two years ago.
Two years ago next week will be the anniversary of Nate's Death. I mentally cringed at the memory. I had watched him die while protecting my father Adrian by a bunch of drunk human thugs. One of them ended up shooting Nate in the chest. The bullet went straight through but was dead before his body hit the ground. My dad's other guardians were protecting my dad and knocking the humans that didn't flee unconsious. I ran past one of the guardians and knelt by Nate's body. The whole time my dad was yelling my name. I didn't know what was happening I just had the urge to help him. I placed my hands on him and felt power surging through me into Nate. I felt his chest move under my hand and say the bullet hole start to close up. When the hole closed my surge of power stopped. I was so exhausted that I collapsed. When I woke up later at home my Dad talked to me and I was stunned. I had specialized in Spirit, Nate was alive, and that he was shadow-kissed to me. I was yanked out of my thoughts when Nate asked a question.
I answered him as truthfully as I could. "Honestly Nate, I don't know how I feel about it. I mean I've basically gone to the school at Court my whole live. It's going to be an interesting change in pace." I said then went back to eating.

I was eating my second doughnut as Bekah answered my question. I sipped my coffee to wash down the doughnut. "I wouldn't worry Bekah, you won't be alone." I stated with a smile. She gave me a funny look, so I explained to her. "Your father wants me to go with you, to keep you out of trouble!" I chuckled under my breath. "But I will be working, Guardian Petrov the schools Head Guardian asked me to mentor one of the students. I excepted so we won't get to hang out as much but I will be checking in on you." I told her, since she needed to know that we wouldn't be hanging out like we normally do at court.

I was surprised by what Nate said and almost choked on my drink. "Dad's making you go with me?" I looked at him questioningly. "So you're going to be mentoring a student, do you know which one?" I asked curiously.
